VIA – Hope and Restoration

Posted in colombia, music, projects, travel, via, video, work by Stephen Stonestreet on June 11, 2010

If any of you didn’t know, my new band, VIA, just released an EP called, “Hope and Restoration”. If you have been following the project, Seven Glimpses of Hope, that was just finished on June 3rd, you know what I am talking about. These 7 songs are the soundtrack to the project’s 7 videos. We also created these songs as a soundtrack to the vision of the Open Arms Foundation, who is helping rescue and restore the street children in Medellin, Colombia.

We prefer if you watch the videos first, so hit up the site for the project HERE, and watch them! Then, if you like them, you can buy them!

We are very excited to be releasing this out to all of you great people, and we hope you enjoy it!

It is for sale online now! Click on the image above to take a listen and buy!

The Creative Process

Posted in colombia, creative process, music, projects, travel, via, video, work by Stephen Stonestreet on June 6, 2010

As many of you know, this past week I’ve been releasing a number of videos, along with original music for the soundtrack of the videos and photos by my amazing friend, Mallory. It’s not just been this past week, but the last 5 months of my life. I’ve dedicated myself to this project and the cause of the street children.

It truly has been a honor to work with the Open Arms Foundation (OAF) again. It’s no secret, my heart is in Colombia with all of the kids and people here. I think I’ve posted about it enough (but it isn’t over)…

These past 5 months, especially during the project, the creative process has been pretty crazy to pump out (those two words “creative” and “pumped” should not go together, but it is reality). It really all started (with a nice boom) when John Poole, Rachel Feldhaus, and I started writing and recording the original music for the project. John and I had about 2 weeks of pure writers block. I felt like I had just thrown myself into what all other musicians go through daily. As John and I both agreed, writing and recording music is probably one of the most fulfilling things a person can produce. So much work and time, and when the end product comes out, there are no words to describe how accomplished you feel.

Same went for the producing the videos that are now out running through the air! After filming, the editing part was strenuous (more than 12 hours of work per day/night). Oh, and the importing, exporting, importing, exporting, external hard drive changes, no space available externals… Oh the glorious adventures of a filmmaker.

Overall, it has truly been an incredible experience. I’ve learned so much, and feel I’ve accomplished a lot. I thank each and every person who has joined us all in this project, helping OAF rescue and restore more street children, now and in the future.

For all of you who weren’t able to view all the videos/photos/music, I have created a page on here for you to see all of the 7 posts from this past week.

And please continue to spread the word and support OAF! They are an incredible organization doing beautiful things in Colombia for all of the people who live there. Thanks!
